From September 21 to 23, 2025, one of the major events in the field of engineering consulting took place at the Cape Town International Convention Center (South Africa) – the annual Global Infrastructure Conference of the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).
Industry experts, opinion leaders, company executives, architects, government officials, and world-class politicians took part in FIDIC’s annual flagship event. It was a great opportunity for everyone to network with colleagues and partners, attend thematic forums, and exchange knowledge and experience.
Ukraine was represented at the Conference by the leaders of the Interstate Guild of Consulting Engineers (IGCE) – IGCE President Oleksandr NEPOMNYASHCHY and IGCE Vice President, CEO of the engineering and consulting company LLC ENGINEERING CORP. Bakhtiyar KHODJAEV.

The conference began with the official inauguration of Alfred Inglet, the new FIDIC President elected at the previous conference. New board members were also elected at the meeting. Manisha Kotari, President and CEO of Sheladia Associates (USA), and Adam Bialachowski, CEO of B-Act from Poland, were elected as new FIDIC Vice Presidents.
The main theme of this year’s FIDIC Global Infrastructure Conference was “Smart Infrastructure: Equality, Sustainability, and Innovation for a Sustainable World.”
Participants discussed how building smart infrastructure can contribute to a more sustainable, resilient, and equitable world. Due to the constant intensification of various challenges facing humanity, the need to find effective engineering solutions for the development of social, energy, and transport infrastructure is becoming particularly urgent.
The answer may lie in a combination of modern technologies, the principle of sustainable development, and inclusiveness. This approach can contribute to the construction of new infrastructure that is convenient for communities and ensure long-term sustainability and economic development.
Therefore, modern engineering solutions must take into account the need to overcome infrastructure gaps, increase adaptability to climate change, and use advanced scientific achievements.
For example, digital transformation and sustainable financing can create a more convenient, smarter, and more efficient infrastructure that will promote economic growth and help achieve global sustainable development goals. It also provides a real opportunity to influence the vision and creation of a better future.
The International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) is the largest global representative body of national associations of consulting engineers. Founded in 1913, the Federation represents the interests of over 1 million professional engineers from 40,000 companies in 100 countries around the world. LLC ENGINEERING CORP. is a permanent member of FIDIC.
